Election of 1800



The election of eighteen hundred was one of the unforgettable elections. Thomas Jefferson And John Adams had ran against each other for the role of the President for the new Nation. Thomas Jefferson was born on April 3, 1743 and died on July 4, 1826. He came from Shadwell, Virginia and went to the college of William And Mary, He had five children and had a wife named Martha Wayles Skelton. John Adams was born on October 30, 1735 and also died on July 4, 1826. He was born in Braintree Massachusetts, he went to Harvard college and then married Abigail Adams.
In the 1800 election Thomas Jefferson ran for the Democratic - Republican Party while John Adams ran for the Federalist - political Party. The election was only the fourth in the Nation.
At the time the President with the most electoral votes became President, but in 1801 Thomas and Adams received the same number of votes. Jefferson and Aaron Burr belonged to the same party, the people wanted Thomas Jefferson to be President and Aaron Burr to be Vice President. But Burr refused to be left behind. The House Of Representatives then had to decide the Election. The House voted 35 times without breaking the tie, finally Alexander Hamilton Burrs rival spoke and said Burr was a dangerous man. On February 17, 1801 the House chose Jefferson as President of the United States.
